Book Recommendations for Cold Winter Nights

Some picks from the Keller household:

Fiction: Patrick O’Brian, Master and Commander and following (20 volumes.) After years of recommending them to him, Tim is finally pushing himself past the unfamiliar language and style and really enjoying them. Plus, you won’t run out soon! (Kathy)

Theology: Cornelius Plantinga, Not the Way It’s Supposed to Be: A Breviary of Sin (Eerdmans, 1995) does a good job of exploring all the ways that sin wreaks havoc in the world. (Tim)

Alan Jacobs, Original Sin: A Cultural History (Oxford, 2008) traces the history of belief in original sin over the course of western history. Jacobs is a believer in the doctrine, yet is very fair to those who can’t abide it. (Tim)
