This will be our third trip to Chennai, one of the largest cultural, economic and educational centers in South India. As with our previous trips, we will participate in the work of a nonprofit that provides rehabilitation and aftercare for survivors of abuse and human trafficking. We'll hold a fundraiser for this nonprofit (not named here for security purposes), and will conduct teaching initiatives to benefit their clients. We'll worship at a local City to City church plant, where there is the potential to partner with several of their outreach programs, including a home for destitute elderly women, an orphanage, and an after-school program for local children. We'll tailor our endeavors around the skill sets of our teammates.
The team will then travel to Kolkata, a prime area in India for human trafficking. While there, the team will get in on the ground work of helping to set up a daycare center for abuse survivors and children of women from the red light districts. This is an exciting project that we hope will result in a long-term partnership between the non-profit and future Redeemer mission teams to India.
Although those with backgrounds in social work/management, marketing, and teaching, training or counseling are especially needed, the trip is open to all with a desire to serve and a heart for the issue of human trafficking.
